At the recent 2025 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton, Virginia, Claudia Pearce won a Judges Choice award for her quilt, 'Don't Shoot! Only Elephants Should Wear Ivory'. The quilt, measuring 36” x 36”, was created using fused appliqué, free-motion quilting, and satin stitching.
Claudia is passionate about saving these magnificent animals. Due to poaching for the illegal ivory trade, the number of African Elephants is only 1.5% of their historic numbers.
"Seeing this family in the wild was the dream of a lifetime. I wanted to display the poignancy of the family while highlighting the danger to them. My original design is based on a photo I took in Africa while on safari in 2019."
