Claudia Pearce's Quilt, "Edgar", received a Judge's Choice Award at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival held February 26-March 1, 2026 at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.
In this piece, the raven poses in front of a blood moon (lunar eclipse) perusing his environment. A Polyphemus moth, named for Odysseus’ cyclops, sitting freely on the rock, keeps him company. In the evening background, moths and fireflies flicker, and bats dart. The fauna depicted here are all Maryland natives. A lunar eclipse will be visible in Maryland on March 3, 2026. Edgar’s namesake is of course Edgar Allan Poe!
