Denise Tarbell

Bending and blending light and color, I work exclusively in glass drawing from a psychological and emotional appeal rather than traditional design.  My approach involves using color to express an idea with texture, like a painter or sculptor. For example white may be represented by clear glass which has texture, density, and patterns of shadow and light and I search for unusual glass grains and substance to support my design. My work has an abstract quality drawing from historic designs and cultures.  I hunt for unusual color combinations and representations of the natural world and my subjects may be emotional, theatrical, cosmic, or based on abstract thoughts or something as commonplace as sidewalk cracks.
