Karen Jury's photo encaustic artwork has been juried into the MFA Spring Member Show, marking a notable inclusion in this year’s exhibition.
The piece, measuring 11 x 14 inches, is executed in photo encaustic and mixed media. The composition was developed through the merging of two photographic sources. A cookbook image was used as the background, while a second photograph featuring peppers grown in the artist’s garden was layered into the work.
A final surface was created using encaustic medium, through which the colors were enhanced and brought forward, contributing to the overall visual effect of the piece.
The selected work reflects an exploration of layered imagery and material, combining photographic elements with the depth and luminosity characteristic of encaustic techniques.
