Kathleen Stumpfel

Kathleen lives in Baltimore County, Maryland. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a BA degree in Studio Art and worked in commercial art after graduation. She became interested in watercolor in 2004 and was elected to 'Signature Artist' membership in the Baltimore Watercolor Society in 2006 becoming president of the Society in 2013.

Kathleen teaches drawing and painting through Carroll County Community College. She is fascinated with the beautiful effects possible in watercolor and acrylic painting. Landscapes dominated her earlier watercolors but figures and acrylics have been happily explored in more recent compositions.

She has shown work in juried exhibits sponsored by the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the West Virginia Watercolor society, Pittsburgh Watercolor, and the Artist’s Gallery in Columbia. She has won numerous awards in Baltimore Watercolor Society sponsored shows and in the Mid-Atlantic Exhibition.

Artist's Statement -
Every painting I do is inspired by something I see around me. I strive to express each in a unique piece of art. I have used a variety of media over the years. Watercolor has a feeling of lightness I find lovely and acrylics can produce wonderful texture and color. During the time I have been painting my interest in finding what these mediums can do has grown. The content of my work is constantly evolving. This state of change is something that all artists embrace. It is through challenge that growth occurs.
